I read about this yesterday and was flabbergasted. I can't believe telecommunication companies think it's perfectly fine for THEM to choose what websites their customers will see.

I signed the petition, tout suite.

Censorship is all around us. It works on every level of society. We censor ourselves. The media censors itself. Government censors itself and its citzens. We censor others if we don't like what they are saying (e.g. 'Shut the f**k up you asswiping muthaf**ka or I'll pop your sorry ass'). There is nothing surprising about ISPs censoring access to websites. It is only surprising that nobody made a fuss about it earlier. I suspect we've been living with this kind of censorship since ISPs were invented!

Jack - you said it.

Dr McC - You have a point, but if I want to surf the net, I don't want to be charged anything additional to what I'm already paying for my super high speed dial up connection.

have you noticed that yahoo now comes as at&t yahoo messenger? interesting ...

it wouldnt surprise me to see them take over part of the internet and charge people an access fee to use their bandwidth and quote one price as 'a promotion' and then hike the fees and add hidden access charges and taxes..and then pretty soon start charging for using yahoo? after all they are going to start loosing money as people are drifting to the internet phone services that are more reasonably priced like Skype... i did :)
